About

LipidBRIGHT is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network training the next generation of interdisciplinary lipid scientists. By integrating lipidomics, artificial intelligence, disease biology, and clinical translation across cardiovascular, kidney, cancer, and inflammatory diseases, LipidBRIGHT aims to transform how lipids are used for diagnosis, risk prediction, and therapy.

Why LipidBRIGHT?

Lipids are essential components of cells, energy metabolism, and signalling - yet their full diagnostic and therapeutic potential remains largely untapped. While lipid research has traditionally focused on cholesterol and triglycerides, thousands of lipid species play critical roles in disease mechanisms, patient stratification, and treatment response.

LipidBRIGHT uniquely bridges:

  • Multiple high-impact diseases (CVD, CKD, cancer, chronic inflammation)

  • Advanced lipidomics & spatial tissue imaging

  • Artificial intelligence and multi-omics disease modelling

  • Clinical translation and industrial application

By crossing disease and disciplinary borders, LipidBRIGHT accelerates innovation that would not be achievable within isolated research fields.

Lipid biomarkers,
imaging & AI

High-resolution lipidomics, spatial lipid imaging, and machine-learning models are applied to patient cohorts to:

  • Identify novel lipid biomarkers

  • Improve diagnosis and outcome prediction

  • Enable patient stratification and personalised medicine

Lipid-associated pathology & disease mechanisms

Using functional assays, advanced cellular models, and in vivo systems, LipidBRIGHT investigates how disease-associated lipid alterations:

  • Drive inflammation, vascular dysfunction, cancer progression, and organ damage

  • Can be targeted through resolution pharmacology and lipid-based interventions

clinics & industry

In close collaboration with industry and clinical partners, LipidBRIGHT translates discoveries into:

  • Nutritional and lipid-based therapeutic strategies

  • AI-supported drug target discovery

  • Lipid nanoparticles and novel delivery approaches
